Travel Day – Indiana to Manistee, Michigan
Join us in this episode as we finally leave Indiana and head into Michigan. We travel with Jim & Kellie with Suite Travels and end up at an awesome casino campground in Manistee Michigan and have a blast celebrating a birthday.
Michigan’s Upper Peninsula is on our list as well so stay tuned for that in a future video. The excitement never ends when you RV fulltime.
Manistee Michigan
The beaches, lighthouses, food, and more will have us back to explore again one day soon. While we were near Lake Michigan it sure felt like we were at the ocean minus the sharks and saltwater!
Manistee is the county seat of Manistee County. The name “Manistee” is from an Ojibwe word first applied to the principal river of the county.
We had an awesome time exploring Manistee and the surrounding area. Michigan you are beautiful and just may have stolen our hearts.
Historic Lighthouses
While we were in Manistee, Michigan we took a short drive up the coast of Lake Michigan to check out Point Betsie Lighthouse located in Frankfort, Michigan.
The lighthouse was closed to visitors, I’m still happy we drove out to see it. This is the oldest standing structure in Benzie County, the lighthouse was built in 1858.
North Pierhead Lighthouse
We were able to walk right up to the North Pierhead Lighthouse. This lighthouse is located in Manistee county. The sunsets from here were just stunning!
The lighthouse was replaced in 1873 when the new structure was augmented with a combination fog signal and light tower at the end of the wooden north pier.
To make it safe to get to the light during stormy weather, this new lighthouse was outfitted with an elevated wooden catwalk running from the shore to the lighthouse
Good Food and Friends
We stumbled upon a local brewhouse, North Channel Brewhouse we decided to try out with friends Jim and Kellie. The beer was cold and the food was amazing!
Moving on up the coast to the Upper Peninsula and we just cannot wait. Have you been? Stay tuned for more of our adventures in Michigan!
