5 Interesting Facts about Haystack Rock

Haystack Rock is a 235-foot sea stack in Cannon Beach, Oregon.

The Haystack Rock tide pools are home to many intertidal animals, including colorful starfish, sea anemone, crabs, and sea slugs. The rock is also a nesting site for many seabirds and puffins. Low tide offers the ability to walk right up to the tide-pools.

Haystack Rock can be seen in the opening scene of The Goonies.

National Geographic called Cannon Beach “one of the world’s 100 most beautiful places” in their June 2013 issue.

This famous Rock is part of the Oregon Coast’s geological history, formed millions of years ago by lava flows that created many of the dramatic capes and headlands on the Oregon Coast.
